Every Friday, Trinity Church in Boston offers a free concert called “Fridays at Trinity,” a series of organ concerts featuring recitalists from throughout the U.S. and from around the world. From about to 12:15 pm to 12:45 pm, you can stop by the church and listen to their featured organist of the week.

organ21The church itself sits in Copley Square, just across from the Boston Public Library. In 2005 it underwent a major renovation and restoration project and has been celebrated as a masterpiece of American architecture. However, the organ is just one of the many beauties the church has to offer. Inside are incredibly detailed works of murals and stained glass art. Pulitzer Prize winning author David McCullough called it “the work of a civilization.”

Founded in 1733, Trinity Church is part of the Diocese of Massachusetts in the Episcopal Church, a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion, and serves as a parish to nearly 3,000 households.

The organ itself is huge, with what looks like thousands and thousands of controls and keys. Michael Kleinschmidt, Director of Music and organist at Trinity Church was nice enough to sit down with me and explain a little about himself, what he does, and organ itself at Trinity Church.

If your lunch break could use a little tune-up, just take the Green Line to Copley and you can’t miss it. Your ears will thank you.
