Pucker up.
It’s not always easy to impress a special someone on Valentine’s Day while on a student’s budget. A university campus may not be the most romantic place on earth, but Boston does present a few prime locations to make your move this Saturday. Let’s take a look at some of the more romantic places in Boston to get down to business… It’s business time.
The Arnold Arboretum
A stroll through a winter wonderland is a sure way to turn the heat up. The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University is the oldest public arboretum in North America and one of the world’s leading centers for the study of plants. Cool. It’s a public landscape that doubles as an escape from this concrete jungle. After only a semester in the city, I can’t remember what a forest looks like…The grounds are open from sunrise to sunset every day of the year. There is no admission charge.
O.K. Maybe not your most romantic location at first thought, but the calm, blue aquarium waters, the colorful fish and the cute penguins score bonus points with the ladies. With lots to look at, it’s a nice ice breaking opportunity for a couple just starting off. Go early and then go out for some seafood. Open Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
More of a loaf of bread and bottle of wine couple? O.K., even emos deserve love, I guess. Harvard Square hosts many coffee houses and lots of eye candy for a nice evening stroll. Stop by Crème Café for excellent cup of coffee so you and yours can sit and talk… just talk.
Ice Skating Rinks
Plenty of places to hold each other’s hands as you glide across the ice and try not to fall.
The line here can stretch for what seems like miles, and it’s often crowded. It’s open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., $4 to get in, $8 for skate rental.
This The 2,900 square-foot ice skating rink is open to the public with food and beverages located just inside the hotel. This weekend it’s open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Go ice skating and then reserve a room.
This place is nice because it’s only open to BU students and FitRec members. This weekend it’s open Friday noon – 12:45 p.m., and 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. , and Sunday noon – 1:45 p.m. Skate rental is available, and the number of people allowed to skate can be limited, so call for a reservation.
Top of the Hub, Prudential Tower
Take your lovah to the top of Boston for a romantic dinner. Enjoy the glow of the city from above as you dine on the 52nd floor of the Prudential Center. Get your eveningwear ready because with top-shelf local and seafood dishes, and live jazz, it’s fancy schmancy. They even have a Valentine’s Day special for only $250 per couple. Yea O.K., it’s expensive, but she’ll practically have to.
AND…just to be safe, here are the closest flower shops around BU in case you need a last-minute idea.
These are just a few ideas – I can only do so much. The rest is up to you. Good luck!
