Welcome to The Narrow Campus. We write with authority on what it’s like to be a student — living, working and playing — at Boston University’s College of Communication. We’ll write about things not found in any BU brochure or heard on any campus tour. Whether you’re a prospective student or one of our classmates, we will tell you something that you don’t already know. And perhaps make you smile in the process.
The Bloggers
Andrew Fatato is a 21-year-old senior at Boston University’s College of Communication. He studies journalism and philosophy and has a bit of a superiority complex. But that’s why he’s a blogger. When it comes to music or movies his tastes are probably too snobby for you, but that’s OK, because you probably wouldn’t understand them anyway. He grew up in the North End of Boston and therefore is a superb authority on all things concerning this city. So, check back frequently for insights into this town, the news, and everything else you’ve always wondered about in the darkest corners of your heart.
Hey, I’m Connor Gleason, and I’m from West Chester, Pa. (Yes, home of Bam Margera, and the birthplace of golfer Jim Furyk AND Jewish reggae musician Matisyahu.) I graduated from Ithaca College in upstate New York last spring and received a degree in photography. Now I’m at BU working toward my graduate degree in photojournalism. I enjoy all things photography, playing the drums, movies, traveling, coffee, continental breakfasts, stepping on crunchy leaves, European car chases and heists and recently, the city of Boston! While I’m interested in photojournalism, I’m still trying to decide how I’d like to use my degree. Check out some of my work at http://www.connorgleason.com. Feel free to ask me any questions about COM, the photojournalism program, or why Dunkin’ Donuts is significantly superior to Starbucks.
My name is Michel Ann Lienhard-O’Malley, and I am often referred to as the girl with the longest name in the world. I am 21, tall, pessimistic, and incredibly privileged; yet I am the most ambitious person you will ever meet. Sometimes I find life to be a drag, and sometimes I can’t believe how lucky I am to be alive. Things that really make me appreciate my existence are trance music, new love, cats of all ages, rain on a warm day, and irony. Things that don’t are ignorant people, senseless violence, romantic comedies, and shameless plugs (visit my photography website, www.MichelAnnPhotography.com). When I graduate this January, I hope to move to New York City and begin a career in advertising. I say hope and not plan because recently I have realized that plans can, and will, change. I believe hoping is a more realistic approach to life.
I’m Chris Moyer, and I’m a senior majoring in Communication Studies. Many people ask what exactly that means. I say it means I have many options with choosing classes and a general knowledge of communication as a whole. I’m also an ex journalism major at BU at a former student of Ithaca College. I like to explore my options before settling on something.
I grew up in New Hampshire, home of the smallest shoreline in the country, spectacular foliage, and Mount Washington. My hometown of Hampstead, however, is only about an hour’s drive north of Boston. I played baseball and was sports editor on the student newspaper at the largest high school in the state.
As a BU student I’ve interned for an ESPN-affiliated radio station, a daily Boston newspaper, a lawyer, a United States senator, and a major league baseball team. Last March I traveled 34 hours one-way in a 15-passenger van to Omaha, Neb., as part of the Alternative Spring Break program. I’ve played intramural sports, written for The Daily Free Press (the independent student paper), and coordinated the peer advising program in COM.
Beyond school activities, I’m a huge baseball fan and closely follow the Boston sports scene. I love going to concerts, big and small, in the Boston area. The Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Foo Fighters are two of my favorite bands, and I’ve seen both of them live.
I’m Aviv Rubinstien. Originally from Pennsylvania, I’ve been living in Boston for five years. I did my undergrad at BU, and now I’m in the graduate program for screenwriting. I work in the Dean’s Office at COM – I’m the guy in the window. I also front the Allston band Pray for Polanski.
I am a shameless self promoter so, I’m going to hide links to our website in as many posts as I can. Like this one. How very meta. Anyway, I’m going to do my best to bring you some off-beat, quirky and informative blogging. I’m going to talk a lot of crap and probably make people angry, but I’m going to try my best to be honest and right. That is my promise to you.

All,
I make reading “About the Narrow” a starting point for my day. Without exception the postings have been interesting, informative and fun — just the right formula.
Thanks for the hard work (writing is hard!) and I look forward to much more.
